Pakistan has a long history of election rigging :-
1). Ayub Khan used military machine and bureaucracy to rig elections against Fatima Jinnah in 60s.
2). General Mirza Aslam Beg and ISI rigged elections in favor Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif by looting Mehran bank
3). In 90's establishment favored Nawaz Sharif over Benazir Bhutto; Benazir was vastly popular with masses but she was always at disadvantage.
4). In 2008, elections were rigged in favor of Zardari because of a deal between Zardari and establishment
5). In 2013, elections were rigged in favor of Nawaz Sharif because of deal with establishment
In Pakistan, elections are rigged as follows :-
1). Establishment used bureaucracy to stuff boxes with fake votes
2). Established political parties cultivated their workers in police, teachers, election commission, and judiciary and then used these to influence election results
3). Political parties acquired thousands of fake votes including those who are dead
4). Money laundering and black money plays a major role in rigging elections. Candidates are giving away cars, bikes and cash to win voters.
In 2018 elections, situation is very interesting :-
1). Nawaz Sharif is in jail, and is desperate to reach deal with establishment
2). Nawaz Sharif money laundering has been exposed and he can face further legal challenges if banking transactions from Rajhi bank to HBL New York are considered by NAB and FIA.
3). Nawaz Sharif is willing to spend his billions to win elections.
4). Most of the corrupt media is playing for Nawaz Sharif
5). China is afraid of Mahatir Muhammad like leader, and may have a similar role to play as Saudi
Arabia. Nawaz Sharif is not stupid, he has come back to Pakistan after reaching some sort of understanding.
All in all, local and international establishment is resisting the possibility of PTI winning a simple or strong majority. They want a coalition government that can be controlled from backdoor.
PTI has to raise its voice against possible rigging, and fight to close all the doors for rigging. It should be made clear that establishment will lose in a big way, if they try to prevent PTI from gaining a majority and forming a strong government.
